About Wendy

I am originally from Western Australia but have also lived in the Australian Capital Territory, Papua New Guinea, the Northern Territory, Victoria and Samoa. My husband Bob and I married in 1991 and we have lived in Newcastle since 1994.

I have a Degree, a Masters Degree and a PhD in Education and worked for forty years in education, initially as a teacher in schools and then in universities in teacher education. After retiring from education in 2007 I pursued a lifelong interest in dressmaking and completed a Certificate IV and Diploma in Applied Fashion Design and Technology at Hunter TAFE. I currently work as a dressmaker. I also have a Certificate IV in Celebrancy. I am a member of Australian Marriage Celebrants Incorporated and the Australian Federation of Civil Celebrants.

I have always been committed to working in my community and am a member of the Rotary Club of Newcastle Sunrise. I have been Club President twice, chair of the District Membership Committee and a member of the district Training and Development team. I regularly participate in service activities such as cooking meals at Ronald McDonald House, working at the Merewether Community kitchen and gardening at the Hunter Wetlands. I am also a volunteer at Miss Porter’s House (Newcastle’s only National Trust property) and as a member of the House and Collections Committee work on maintenance of the collection, organising Tea and Tour groups and assisting with fundraising. I am also an active member of the new Lambton Fashion Sewers and contribute to sewing for charities such as Days for Girls and Angel Gowns. In February 2016 I was awarded a Wallsend Commuity Award for my service to the Community.

My interests include cooking, dressmaking, live theatre and sport (particularly AFL).
